Loch Carron from Strome
If you choose to explore, we're only
about 20 miles from Applecross with its
beaches and famous Inn. They recently
found more fame when the BBC series
Monty Halls' Great Escape was filmed
nearby. It is an easy drive of less than
30 minutes north to the pretty fishing
village of Shieldaig and the hikers
paradise of Torridon. Half an hour to the
south is the stunning Eilean Donan
Castle, the Skye Bridge and the
beautiful village of Plockton- famed for
seal trips, palm trees and Hamish
MacBeth!

Should you choose to 'let the train take
the strain' there is a station three miles
away in Strathcarron. The line from
Lochcarron takes you to either
Inverness or the Skye Bridge at Kyle of
Lochalsh. Either way, it's a stunning
journey and has been voted one of the
top ten railway journeys in the world,
coming in just behind the Trans-
Siberian Express according to "The
Daily Mail".
Glayva Cottage is located in the heart
of the pretty village of Lochcarron,
where most of the houses are
traditional whitewashed fishing
cottages located along the north shore
of the tidal sea loch, Loch Carron.

In the village there are two hotels (each
with a bar serving real ales and bar
meals, and each with a separate
restaurant offering a selection of local,
home-cooked food), a well stocked
local supermarket, a petrol station, a
local butcher, a post office, a bank with
ATM, a cafe and a bistro.

Glayva cottage is in the centre of the
village and only a few hundred metres
away from any of the main amenities.
There is a lochside footpath along the
length of the main village which means
that even a walk to the shop is a
pleasure.
In the loch you will frequently see
dolphins, seals, porpoises and otters,
with pine marten, deer, golden eagles
and sea eagles often seen around the
village itself.

In and around the village you could
go fishing, golfing, walking (there are
many easy walks in and around the
village), climbing, wildlife spotting or
diving (there are two diving
instructors in the village). It is also
possible to hire bicycles, canoes and
boats from Lochcarron garage. The
village is also ideally located for
touring the West Highlands and Skye
or for just relaxing. The availability of
local shops, pubs and restaurants
means that you don't need to use the
car every day.

For children, there's a small play park
in the village, seal trips and beaches
nearby! The restaurants in the village
are child-friendly (subject to time of
dining).
There really is so much to see and do in the area that a website really can't do it justice - you'll just have
to come and see it!
